Pathways

FEFA is informing just and sustainable pathways for Africa through five interconnected themes: Futures Thinking, Guiding Policy and Investment, Ecosystem Functioning and Biodiversity, Implementation Projects and Nature Finance. Through these themes, working with partners across Africa, we are driving research activities that contribute to seven strategic outcomes that amplify each other’s impact:

The African Data Drive serves as foundational data infrastructure, integrating African biodiversity datasets with spatial estimates of development potential through 47 diverse datasets. This comprehensive platform feeds both the Africa Roadmap and Landscaep Decision Dashboard with quality-assured African data previously overlooked in global analyses.

African Anthologies capture indigenous wisdom and innovative solutions through futures thinking methodologies, feeding into the Earth Commission Transformation Pathways and IPBES Community of Practice to ensure African perspectives reach global processes. These narratives help to crystallise African priorities and values which can be explored using the Landscape Decision Dashboard.

The AGNES Evidence Base provides technical foundation through expanded and standardised evidence for evaluating climate actions and detailed analysis of carbon-biodiversity-livelihood synergies. This evidence base feeds into the Africa Roadmap as its technical foundation, contributes to the African Data Drive, and informs Earth Commission frameworks.

Future Ecosystems For Africa

A unique opportunity for an Africa-led, Africa-centred program, which can influence thinking and action in novel, as yet unexplored ways
