African Roadmap “build-phase” begins

Representatives from the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES), Future Ecosystems for Africa (FEFA), UNESCO-IOC, and Conservation International met in Nairobi, Kenya to build alignment in driving natural climate solutions in Africa that are tailored to the needs of African people and the ecology of African ecosystems.

This work builds on the Evidence Base for Negotiators developed by FEFA in 2022, and African Carbon Budget published in 2024, and the Global Roadmap for Natural Climate Solutions developed by Conservation International and Roe et al 2021. The FEFA project has partnered with Conservation International to develop the Roadmap; to produce accurate African data about the potential climate mitigation pathways, and to ensure that it is built on core principles aligned with the AU and the AGN agenda.

With this support negotiators can i) direct policy and initiatives into nature-supporting activities that keep options open for African people, and ii) access new funding pathways for these initiatives.
